After losing her parents, she and her older sister, Kuroka, were later taken in by an unnamed Devil who reincarnated her sister as one of the members of his peerage. However, Kuroka's power as a Nekomata supposedly soon grew out of control, eventually causing her to kill her master and become a Stray Devil on the run from her pursuers. In actuality, he had planned to harm Koneko, causing Kuroka to kill him in order to protect her younger sister. She doesn't show any emotion at all, and says harsh things and hits Ise when he is doing or thinking something perverted. She shows the most concern for her comrades when they are in trouble. Despite her petite size, Koneko boasts a lot of physical strength and endurance, a standard of the Rook. She can lift heavy objects and throw them as weapons with little effort. Also, enemy attacks have been known to bounce right off of her, including light-based weapons that would seriously wound or kill a regular Devil. After her identity as a Nekomata was revealed, it was further revealed that she can use Senjutsu and Youjutsu but is not fully proficient in using them as compared to her sister. After having her Sacred Gear removed from her body which resulted in her death, Rias revives her as a Devil under her as her Bishop. She moves into the Hyoudou Residence after Issei rescues her from the Fallen Angels and transfers to Kuoh Academy, where she is in the same class as Issei. As befitting a nun, Asia is extremely shy, innocent and fairly inexperienced in things like socializing. Despite being reincarnated as a Devil, Asia still believes in God and follows His teachings such as praying to Him and reading the Bible, which would usually result in her getting severe headaches. Asia has the Sacred Gear Twilight Healing, which allows her to heal humans, Devils, Angels, and Fallen Angels alike. Asia herself shows no actual fighting technique, and mostly relies on her healing abilities. She can send the healing powers of Twilight Healing in a form of a projectile, but it is slightly inferior to her direct touch. Asia has been blessed by Ophis, granting her a bond with Dragons, and allowing her to make a pact with Fafnir. About Highschool of the Dead

A mysterious, lethal disease is on the loose worldwide, resulting in a catastrophic death rate of humanity, and the increasing rise of attacks, caused by the living dead. In Japan, several high school students and a school nurse have banded together to escape Fujimi High School shortly after it was attacked by zombies. The group now attempts to figure who or what was responsible for this plague, and in the meantime, attempt to survive the present apocalypse. When they were little she promised that one day she would marry him. Despite liking Takashi, their relationship was at odds at the beginning of the manga due to his indecisiveness. It was then that she started dating one of his friends, Hisashi, since he wouldn't make a move. As the story progressed they ended up reconciling their relationship. She doesn't find it above herself to reprimand Takashi for acting carelessly. She worries about his well-being yet admits that his selflessness nature is one reason why she fell in love with him. Headstrong and reliable, Rei has proven to be a skilled combatant and strong asset to the group. Initially in the same year as Saeko, Rei was held back despite being an excellent student. Her father- a police detective- had been investigating the corruption behind the father of Shido, one of the teachers at her school. As a result of this he held her back purposefully. Rei bears a lasting grudge against him and feels uneven whenever he's around. A self-proclaimed genius, Saya's knowledge and deductive capabilities have allowed the group to escape from harm. She was among the first to conclude that "they" were attracted to only sound. Despite coming from a prestigious family she despises her parents whom she thought had given up on her in this crisis. It was before their escape from the mansion that she managed to make up with her parents. Other than Rei, she is the only one who has a history with Takashi Komuro since they were children and is assumed to having deeper feelings for him. Slightly self-conscious, she detests the fact that people neither address her by her first name nor look her in the eyes while speaking. The only exception to this is Kohta with whom she has a strange friendship. Saya's grown very attached to Alice and acts like a mother figure in this time of crisis. Not much is known about her family except for her father who had traveled abroad on a self-defense conference before the advent of the Outbreak. Takashi Komuro Profile

Age: 17 Weight: 58 kg Hair: Black Eyes: Brown A 17 year old sophomore high school student, Takashi is in the same class as Rei whom he has been friends with since childhood,He's loved her ever since she made a childhood promise to marry him when they were older. However it was his hesitance and ignorance about her feelings that caused tension in their friendship which led to her starting to date his friend Hisashi. He was one of the first people to notice that something was wrong in the school and quickly took action to escape with his friends. His relationship with Rei was shaken further when he was forced to kill her boyfriend after he was bitten and had turned into a zombie. Soon afterwards their relationship was amended. His resolve to protect Rei at all costs and everyone else in the group earned him their respect and admiration as a leader despite his own feelings of inadequacy. He often acts brash and will go out to risk his life to save or protect someone on a whim. Similar to Saeko, Takashi confessed that he's found an exhilaration in killing "them". Though initially depicted as a poor student who often skips class, he's proven to be a very reliable person that all the characters can count on. Saya Takagi has once mentioned that he and Kohta are the most likely to snap if things keep going the way they are. Alice Maresato Profile

Only 7 years old she was saved from being attacked by several undead by Takashi after her father was killed by members of a household who wouldn't allow them safety. Innocent and passive, Alice is the only member of the group that maintains a cheerful attitude despite all their troubles and the loss of her parents. Looking up to everyone in the group as a bigger brother and sister, she is unwilling to leave them even if it's for her own safety. Alice is often seen playing around with a small dog named Zeke whom they had picked up while saving Alice, and Kohta who she has grown fairly attached too. Presiding over her as a mother figure is Saya whom she has also grown attached too. A bit after while he was still a child, the vampires took him and the rest of the orphanage to their city to become "livestock." However it is revealed that is was all a plan of Felid Bathory, one the Seven Founder, and the attempt to escape is frustrated leading to death of all the family except for him. After getting to the outside world he is found by Glen Ichinose, a captain of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. She is appointed to supervise Yuuichirou during his suspension from the Japanese Imperial Demon Army for his reckless behavior. She is sarcastic and enjoys teasing others, especially Yuuichirou. Her Demon Weapon is Shikama Douji (四鎌童子, lit. Four-Scythe Child), a manifestation-type demon weapon which takes the form of a large scythe, but can be condensed into a pen-like object. She can call out the demon, which she fondly addresses as "Shi," inhabiting it out of the weapon to attack an enemy. About Bleach

Hisana abandoned Rukia when she was still a baby since she could not continue to support both herself and Rukia. Rukia grew up on her own until she met Renji Abarai and other children her age. They worked together to steal food in order to survive and became a makeshift family. She's a bit of a tomboy to show that she's tough. During this time, Rukia and Renji showed signs of having spiritual power. While they initially opted against becoming shinigami, the death of all their friends prompted Rukia to suggest joining the academy for a better life. At the shinigami academy, Renji was admitted into the top class and Rukia into the second ranked one. Renji and Rukia started growing further apart as Renji got further ahead in his training. The emotional distance continued until Rukia was asked to join the Kuchiki family. Renji expressed happiness for Rukia's opportunity but both did not admit that they disagreed with the arrangement since they would likely never see each other again. Rukia reluctantly joined the family and was immediately inducted into the 13th Division without having to graduate or take a squad entrance exam. Unknown to Rukia, Byakuya had adopted her in order to fulfill the last wish of Hisana, whom he had taken as his wife. In the 13th Division, Rukia was not given a seat position, due to Byakuya Kuchiki's influence, since he did not want her sent on dangerous missions. She became friends with the division lieutenant, Kaien Shiba, who trained and mentored her. Their first training location was Mount Koifushi of Hokutan, the 3rd district of West Rukongai. Rukia greatly admired Kaien's wife, 3rd Seat Miyako Shiba. When Miyako was killed by a hollow, Rukia, Kaien, and the division's captain, Jūshirō Ukitake hunted the hollow down. Kaien faced the hollow alone but the hollow's special ability destroyed his zanpakutō. Rukia attempted to draw her sword and help but was stopped by Ukitake. He told her that Kaien's fight was one of honor rather than a fight for his life. If Rukia helped, Kaien would be saved but his honor would be damaged forever. Meanwhile, the hollow entered Kaien and possessed him. Ukitake faced the hollow but his illness allowed the hollow the opportunity to attack Rukia. Kaien momentarily regained control and thrust himself through Rukia's zanpakutō. He thanked Rukia and Ukitake for letting him fight for his honor and died in Rukia's arms. Orihime Inoue Profile

She does not remove her hairpins, except to sleep (she is seen without them in episode 64 when she wakes up), as they are worn in memory of her brother, while her hair is worn long in honor of the promise Tatsuki Arisawa once made to protect her. Her large breasts are occasionally made the subject of jokes in the series. She also has an amazingly hard head, which has injured Uryū, Chad, and Ichigo. The only person who has been able to damage her head has been Yachiru Kusajishi in a comical moment when she is riding on Kenpachi Zaraki's shoulders. Orihime has yellow-orange/brown eyes in colored pictures of the manga, but gray eyes in the anime. Orihime is friendly, humorous in her own way, sensitive, and kind. She comes off as naive and rather clueless, which is at odds with her exceptionally high marks in school. Apparently, she is hopeless when it comes to technology. One of the members of the Handicrafts' Club remarks that she is not smart enough to use a cell phone, which is why she does not have one. Additionally, according to Tatsuki, Orihime has the fighting skill of a black belt, however, in the English dubbed version she says Orihime is at the skill of a yellow belt. Orihime cooks and eats strange food at home, although she also likes some normal food. Aside from Rangiku Matsumoto and possibly Tessai Tsukabishi, no one shares Orihime's tastes. Her favorite food is red bean paste, and she likes putting butter on sweet potatoes. Orihime has a tendency to rush into situations without thinking, sometimes leading to embarrassing consequences. At one point, the schoolgirls ask Rukia if she has feelings for Ichigo. When Rukia denies any such thing, Orihime is disappointed that Rukia does not share her sentiments, because if she had, then it would be two girls against one boy and therefore the girls "team" would win, which makes no sense. She also tends to have an overactive imagination and gets carried away thinking of implausible scenarios, such as portraying herself as a futuristic and apparently highly destructive robot in an assignment asking "How do you see yourself in the future?", when the question refers to what occupation one wishes or believes they will have. Orihime has also demonstrated that she is perceptive, mostly when it comes to Ichigo Kurosaki. She is in love with Ichigo, and in both the manga and anime, her feelings only become more evident as time goes on. She has revealed these feelings both to Rangiku Matsumoto and to Ichigo himself, though he was asleep at the time. She also has the uncanny ability to detect Ichigo by scent and sense his spiritual pressure, even when masked by the visored. Orihime lives by herself in Karakura Town, where the story takes place, and is supported by relatives living elsewhere. Previously, she had lived with her older brother, Sora, who was fifteen years older than her. Nemu Kurotsuchi Profile

Nemu is the lieutenant of the 12th Division in the Gotei 13, under captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi. Nemu is the artificially created daughter of Mayuri Kurotsuchi, a combination of his research in artificial bodie and artificial souls. This past has driven her to become rather introverted and melancholic, preferring to stay silent in her captain's presence. Their relationship is far from the average father-daughter one, as Mayuri doesn't seem to care much for Nemu's well-being (using her as bait in combat). The most that can be said in his favor is that he has occasionally implied concern over her life as a point of personal pride in his own skill as her creator. Despite being abused and mistreated in every possible way by her captain and father, Nemu still shows great loyalty to him, and has openly expressed worry at the prospect of his death, likely due to her implied gratitude that Kurotsuchi brought her into the world. Unlike her father, however, she seems to have compassion for others, saving Uryū Ishida's life as a thank you for not killing Mayuri. Based on the 13 squad episode endings and the Bount arc, Nemu's fighting style seems to be a combination of capoeira-like martial arts, and kidō attacks. Nemu's body was designed to withstand fatal injury, though still suffers the pain brought on by her injuries. This extends to being able to survive impregnation by Szayel Aporro Granz, a process meant to bring him back to life while leaving his host as an empty husk. Mayuri can repair Nemu very quickly in these situations, allowing her to continue doing her father's bidding. Nemu is also immune to Mayuri's many poisons. Despite this, she carries around a variety of antidotes to be used as she sees fit. She also holds various poisons and potions derived from Mayuri's research in her own body, making her highly dangerous to those that attack her internally. Retsu Unohana Profile

Unohana is a soft-spoken, polite, and caring woman and is the captain of the 4th Division. She uses honorifics when addressing everyone, including her subordinates, and rarely shows panic or distress. She is even polite when angry (for instance, when members of other divisions bully her division), maintaining her smiling demeanor while radiating a dangerous aura that immediately scares others away. She wears the standard shinigami captain uniform, but wears an obi instead of the normal one, and her hair is worn braided over her chest. Presumably the longest serving captain after Kyouraku and Ukitake, Unohana has a presence that tends make everyone around her feel at ease. However, her anger is just as potent as even members of 11th squad become paralyzed with fear whenever they're careless enough to invoke her wrath. While Hitsugaya tended to be a bit of a brat as a child and insisted that he would protect her, Hinamori found him amusing and treated him in an older sisterly fashion, and the two became close friends, with Hinamori giving him the nickname Shiro-chan (little Shiro in English Anime). Living up to its name as the most beautiful Zanpakutō in Soul Society, Sode no Shirayuki manifests herself as a beautiful woman dressed in white and light blue clothes. Her hair is pale blue and she speaks softly. In its released state the blade becomes completely white and a ribbon forms from the pommel, earning it the recognition as the most beautiful zanpakutō in Soul Society. Sode no Shirayuki utilizes ice to attack, each of its three abilities being labeled as "dances" by Rukia. "First dance, white moon" (初の舞・月白 some no mai, tsukishiro) denotes a circular area around Rukia's target and freezes everything within the circle from the ground upwards until it reaches the sky. "The next dance, white ripple" (次の舞・白漣 tsugi no mai, hakuren) fires a massive wave of ice from Sode no Shirayuki's blade. About Bleach

He is a fairly tall, and lean-built person with peach skin and brown eyes. Since becoming a Shinigami, he has become noticeably more muscular, as noted by his sister Karin. When in his spiritual form, Ichigo wears standard Shinigami attire with the addition of a strap across his chest. When he was young, Ichigo considered his mother to be the center of his world. Ichigo always smiled whenever he was with Masaki and he was regularly at her side, holding her hand. As a teenager, Ichigo's personality is much more complex. Stubborn, short-tempered, occasionally confrontational, determined, outspoken, strong-willed and impulsive, he attempts to maintain a detached and "cool" image, despite claiming to not care about what other people think about him. He generally keeps his face set in a permanent scowl with his eyebrows drawn together. Ichigo carries the burden of the real world and the spirit world (Soul Society), a task quite difficult, especially for a teenager like Ichigo, who has his own worries and problems. Also, Ichigo is quite smart; he was ranked 23rd in his high school. He does this partly to prove to his teachers and classmates that just because he's unique, or somewhat punkish, that he can still succeed. When Ichigo first becomes a Shinigami, his Zanpakutō is a standard-looking katana, but oversized with an equally-oversized brown sheathe hung by a strap over his right shoulder. It has a rectangular bronze hand guard with gently inward-curved edges, a stylized flame pattern on the long sides, and a simple decorative slit on the short ones. The handle is red with two light blue tassels on the end of the handle. The large size is due to the unfocused but immense amount of Ichigo's spiritual power, which he didn't know how to control. As a result, the sword itself was rather weak, since very little spiritual power was used to create it. Nevertheless, it was powerful enough to subdue a Gillian-class Menos and lesser Hollows, completely blocking a Cero from the former. It was even able to upturn the ground with a single strike. Because of its weak spiritual energy nature, Byakuya Kuchiki was able to easily cut off most of the blade during his first encounter with Ichigo and Kisuke Urahara subsequently slices it down to the hilt during their training, forcing Ichigo to learn the name of his Zanpakutō in order to release its true form. Ulquiorra Cifer Profile

Birthdate: December 1 Zodiac sign: Sagittarius Height: 169 cm (5'7") Weight: 55 kg Ulquiorra is a male arrancar with a melancholic appearance. Ulquiora is the 4th ranked espada. Ulquiorra is also analytical; during his and Yammy's first visit to the human world, he makes several remarks on the humans who confront them. He theorizes that Orihime Inoue's healing power is a temporal-spatial ability, which Aizen describes as the rejection of fate, and comments on how Ichigo Kurosaki's final release can easily get through Yammy's defenses. He also notes Ichigo's power fluctuation, which varies between very weak and stronger than his own. It would appear that Ulquiorra and Grimmjow, the 6th Espada, are not on good terms. While Ulquiorra allowed Yammy to kill anyone he deemed as "trash", which included Ichigo, Ulquiorra allowed him to live based on his belief that Ichigo's power was so turbulent that eventually he would destroy himself. Grimmjow's conflicting viewpoint was that Ichigo should have been destroyed outright, as he could overcome his weakness and grow even stronger. Despite Grimmjow's argument, Aizen trusted Ulquiorra's judgment. This disagreement led to Grimmjow's unauthorized assault on the real world. Though Ulquiorra is of a higher rank than Grimmjow, Grimmjow is confident that Ulquiorra is afraid to fight him for fear of them destroying one another. When released his zanpakutō, Murciélago, Japanese for "giant black-winged demon," Spanish for "bat") creates two large black wings on his back. His hollow helmet centers atop his head, sporting two large horns, and his arrancar uniform appears more form fitting at the top, becoming robe-like towards the bottom. Additionally, Ulquiorra is apparently unique among the Espada in that he has a second release; Resurrección Segunda Etapa (Spanish for "resurrection second stage"). He becomes more muscular with clawed hands and feet, the whites of his eyes turn black, and his helmet is replaced with elongated horns. He loses his clothes; his arms and legs from the hip down are covered in black fur, and he gains a long thin tail. In both forms he can create long "lances" of energy called Lanza del Relámpago ,ransa deru reranpāgo?, Japanese and Spanish for ”lance of the lightning”), and when thrown can cause an explosion. Ulquiorra seems unfamiliar with the technique when he uses it in his second release state, unexpectedly missing Ichigo with his first one, however, to compensate, he can produce more should his first miss the target. Grimmjow's attire consists of a white hakama and a black sash, his white jacket is ragged and consists of an upturned collar, with black inner lining, the sleeves are rolled and Grimmjow wears it open; chest revealed. The remains of his jawbone like hollow mask are relegated to his right cheek, and his hollow hole has moved to his abdomen. Grimmjow appears to be a laid back and irreverent individual, but this scruffy appearance hides an impulsive, excessively violent personality and a lethally short temper. Grimmjow is blunt, rude, and quite sadistic, revealing an insane grin in battle, much like Kenpachi Zaraki. Grimmjow has little respect for authority and says whatever is on his mind, regardless of whether or not it is appropriate. This attitude leads to conflicts with Kaname Tōsen, who holds Grimmjow in the same low regard as he did Zaraki. He also has conflicts with Ulquiorra Schiffer, the 4th Espada, usually because Ulquiorra interrupts his fights or doesn't act on his own impulses. He has also developed a grudge against Ichigo Kurosaki for wounding him during their second fight, and is eager to return the favor. He purposefully kept the large scar on his chest from their first battle as a reminder of this. Grimmjow is the sixth Espada in Sōsuke Aizen's army of arrancar, meaning he is ranked sixth in terms of strength. Grimmjow was the first character to be revealed as an Espada in the series. A crooked number 6 is tattooed on his back just above and to the right of his hollow hole. Aizen personally marks the Espada, the ten most powerful of his arrancar, with such tattoos as visible marks of their rank and ability. After Kaname Tōsen cuts off and burns his arm, Grimmjow is demoted and quickly replaced by Luppi, much to his annoyance. After Orihime Inoue heals his arm, he kills Luppi to regain his rank, impaling him on his newly restored arm and then vaporizing Luppi's torso with a cero blast. When his zanpakutō, Pantera (豹王（パンテラ, Spanish for "panther," Japanese for "panther king") is released he regains some of his former feline characteristics such as jagged teeth, feline ears, clawed hands and feet, and a tail that can be used as a powerful whip.This state augments his speed drastically and gives him animal-like agility and movements to match. His roar can create shockwaves in the air, he can also fire a number of largely destructive "darts" from his elbows and create energy claws called Desgarrón (豹王の爪（デスガロン, Spanish for "laceration," Japanese for "panther king's claw") from his fingertips. Grimmjow's character design draws heavily from a character in Tite Kubo's earlier manga, Zombie Powder. The main character of the series, Gamma Akutabi, shares both the bone-like jaw structure and lost arm with Grimmjow, although Gamma wears mechanical prosthetics to cover his disfigurements. Byakuya Kuchiki is the 28th head of the noble Kuchiki clan, one of the four noble families in Soul Society. In the ending of the second OVA, Sealed Sword Frenzy, he is even seen stepping out of a horse driven coach dressed in a suit, cane and top hat. Byakuya wears the standard captain uniform along with a white headpiece called a kenseikan (symbolizing his noble rank as the head of the Kuchiki family) and a white scarf made by the master weaver, Tsujishirō Kuroemon III. The scarf is made from silver-white windflower light silk (ginpaku kazahana no uzuginu) and is a family heirloom handed down through the generations to the head of the Kuchiki family. Little is known about Byakuya's early history, except that he often played tag with Yoruichi Shihouin using flash steps, though he never was able to beat her, a score that upholds to the current time of the series. Byakuya married Hisana, who was then a commoner; therefore, he broke the rules by accepting her into the noble Kuchiki family. Shortly before her death, Hisana asked Byakuya to find and adopt her biological sister, Rukia, whom she had abandoned as a baby. She also made him promise that he would not tell Rukia about her real family, for she believed that by abandoning Rukia when she was younger she was not worthy to be called her sister. One year later, Rukia entered the shinigami academy; shortly after, Byakuya found her and immediately adopted her into the Kuchiki clan. By adopting her Byakuya respected his wife's last wish, but had broken the rules of his clan again. He later swore upon his parents' graves that he would never break the rules again, no matter what. As a result, he, though entirely apathetic on the surface, is actually deeply conflicted with the matter of Rukia's execution: should he intervene, it would require breaking the promise to his parents and the rules again, but should he do nothing he would fail to fulfill the promise he made to Hisana to protect Rukia as his own sister. While it is not clear, it is implied that Byakuya Kuchiki became captain of the 6th division less than 50 years before the main Bleach storyline (shortly before Rukia had entered the Gotei 13). Gin Ichimaru became captain of the 3rd Division at the same time. Byakuya Kuchiki's zanpakutō is Senbonzakura (千本桜, A Thousand Cherry Blossoms). Its shikai is triggered by the command "scatter" (散れ, chire). In its shikai, Senbonzakura's blade scatters into a thousand tiny blades. While the blades are supposedly too small to see normally, they appear as cherry blossoms because of the way the light shines on them. Byakuya can control the blades at will, allowing him to shred opponents at a distance and break through almost any defense. While Byakuya can control the blades with his mind alone, using his hands allows him to do so more effectively, making the blades move almost twice as fast. Byakuya's bankai, named Senbonzakura Kageyoshi (Vibrant Display of the Thousand Cherry Blossoms), is essentially a much larger version of Senbonzakura's shikai. To activate it, Byakuya drops his sword. The sword passes through the ground and two rows of giant blades rise up from the ground behind Byakuya. These then scatter into a million tiny blades. The number of blades is great enough that Byakuya can use them for defense as well as offense. Byakuya's bankai has two extra forms, achieved by arranging the blades in different patterns. They are activated by saying the name of the technique followed by the name of his bankai. The first is "scene of a massacre" (senkei, Viz: "annihilate"), which unites the scattered petals into complete swords that form four rows around Byakuya and his opponent. While Byakuya can control these swords as he does his regular blades, he usually attacks with just one in hand. After immobilizing an opponent, he can call in the other blades to hit them while they're trapped. He can also use all the blades at once for one immensely powerful strike. The second form is "final scene" (shūkei, Viz: "last sight"), which condenses every tiny blade into a single sword to drastically increase its cutting power. The blade appears bright white, earning it the name "white imperial sword" (白帝剣, hakuteiken, Viz: "white emperor sword"). Byakuya also grows pure white wings and a halo-like circle in the back, both made of spiritual power. In the anime, dragon-like beings sprout out of Senbonzakura to create the wings. Kisuke Urahara Profile

Birthday: December 31 Kisuke Urahara always wears traditional Japanese wooden sandals and a bucket hat, which has earned him the nickname "sandal-hat" (ゲタ帽子, geta-bōshi?, "Mr. Hat-and-Clogs" in the English version). He is generally a laid-back, jovial fellow, although he can be dead serious when the situation warrants it. Despite his carefree attitude, his speech is always polite, though it is sometimes sarcastic. Yoruichi Shihouin notes that he tends to go over the top with whatever he becomes passionate about. He once described himself as a "mere honest, handsome, perverted businessman." During the Bount arc of the anime, when Ganju Shiba calls Urahara an "old man," Urahara replies that he is the same age as Ganju's sister, Kūkaku Shiba. Urahara can usually be found near the scene of an important event, but will rarely step in to intervene, preferring to be in control from outside. After the event is over (i.e. the battle between Ichigo Kurosaki and Renji Abarai), he kindly pops up and helps the side he deems fit. Thus far, it has tended to be the side of the protagonists. He often tends to know more than he reveals and tends to have some form of relationship with most of the story's characters. While he is a major driving force throughout much of the story, he is usually only the catalyst, allowing others to do the work for him. Despite his appearance, Urahara is a highly skilled fighter, using a combination of powerful attacks and cunning deceptions, and is capable of holding his own against Espada-level arrancar with nothing more than his shikai. He also likes building large underground training spaces in secret. He built the first one under the Sōkyoku hill in Soul Society with Yoruichi for their training, and created a second one under his shop in the mortal realm for a similar purpose.He is also the former captain of squad 12 until he designed the Orb of Distortion.This is able to create Vizards(Soul Reapers with hollow powers). Zaraki's surname comes from the district he once resided in, Zaraki, which is district #80 of the North Alley of Rukongai. District #80 is the worst, most lawless region of Rukongai, full of thieves and murderers (whereas area #1 is the most orderly and law-abiding). While residing in District #80, Kenpachi was nameless. During that time, he became proficient in swordsmanship and killed numerous enemies. At some point during his travels outside of District #80, he found a small girl and named her Yachiru (八千流), in remembrance of the only person he ever admired, after she showed no fear of his sword. Yachiru came from area #79, Kusajishi (草鹿), where her parents were murdered. The two events were apparently quite close. On that day, he also took on a name: Kenpachi, the title bestowed upon the strongest swordsman, the one who has killed the most. The two developed a father-daughter-like relationship. Also, at some point (before he became a Captain), he fought and defeated Ikkaku Madarame; for this reason, Ikkaku pledged to serve under Kenpachi from there on out (Ikkaku doesn't actually get the chance to do so until he joins the 11th Division), but Ikkaku would still jump at the chance to fight Kenpachi to the death. After some time had passed, Kenpachi found his way to the Seireitei. He defeated and killed the previous Captain of the 11th Division (whose identity is currently unknown) and gained his seat in the Gotei 13 in this manner. There, he lived with an old woman (said to be his grandmother), Momo Hinamori, and possibly other people. Little else is known about his past, but it is known that he became a Shinigami shortly after Hinamori. He is also a friend of Jidanbou, the West Gate Keeper, and was the one who taught him the "city rules." As a child, Hitsugaya was a bit of a brat who liked to eat watermelons and poke fun at Hinamori. She would call him "Shiro-chan" (シロちゃん, "Lil' Shiro" in the English dub) and he would counter by calling her "Bed-wetter Momo." The two were close friends and Hitsugaya, despite being younger and much shorter than his friend, always felt that he needed to protect her. His favorite foods are watermelon and sweet nattō. The Tanabata Festival here in Baguio is organized by a local anime/cosplay group, called Otageki Cosplay Association, which was founded in July 2010. The group’s name, Otageki, is a portmanteau of the words Otaku and Geki, making it very appealing to anime fans, veterans and newcomers alike. As a group, Otgeki aims to “promote cosplay excellence, artistry, and quality craftsmanship as a unified team and family while exemplifying discipline and continuing progress while having the time of our lives,” according to the group’s official Facebook page. The festival is also done in coordination with the Japanese Association of Northern Luzon, a group of Japanese expatriates who currently reside in the city. Length of the Event

Being pretty much a small-scale event, the Cosplay-Tanabata Festival is only held for one day. This year, the event started at about 11:00 and ended by 18:00.

Place/Location

The Cosplay-Tanabata Festival is done in one of the Philippines’ most prominent tourist spots, the city of Pines, Baguio City. Specifically, the event was conducted in the gym of the city’s largest secondary school, which holds about 10,000 students every day.

Cost

One of the advantages of having events in the Philippines is the relatively low cost it entails on the part of the attendees. When the event started, the organizers only charged about 20 Philippine Pesos (about 50 Yen or 40 US Cents) as an entrance fee. This year, due to the event having a little more scale, the event cost 30 Philippine Pesos (about 70 Yen or 65 US Cents). The entrance fee is still quite a steal for an anime event, however.

Hotels

Several hotels are available in the city, and just like the entrance fee to the event itself, the fees are pretty budget friendly. Mid-range hotels cost about 2,500 Philippine Pesos (About 6,000 Yen or 50 US Dollars) a night, complete with free breakfast accommodations. The rooms in these hotels are also large enough to comfortably fit 2-3 people. For the extreme budget traveler however, one can find accommodations for as low as 250 Philippine Pesos (about 600 Yen or 5 US Dollars) a night. The rooms in these budget accommodations are usually good for two people. Oh, and wi-fi is usually available for free too!

2. What to Expect/What to Bring

Being a relatively small-scale event, the Cosplay-Tanbata Festival packs a lot of activities that any visitor can take part in. This year, numerous activities were lined up, from cosplay events, to art contests, eating contests, free kenjutsu lessons, and even some basic sumo contests. Almost all of these are free of charge. So what would a person’s survival kit contain if one wants to enjoy the Cosplay-Tanabata Festival? Here are the necessities.

• Camera
- This is definitely a necessity if one wants to capture the numerous eye-catching moments in the festival. Being a festival that features a lot of activities for every participant and attendee, the moments one can capture are many.
• Smartphone/Tablet Computer
– Of course, once a photo or video is captured, one can easily upload the files to social media sites, thanks in part to the organizers who were able to secure the sponsorship of one of the country’s most prominent telecom companies, Globe Telecom.
• Cash
– Though the activities in the event are free, the food and some games require a very small fee. Thus, if one wants to become a guest in the festival, one must have ample pocket money for them to be able to enjoy the products being offered in the stalls fully. Again, due to the scale, card payments are not yet allowed, so all transactions are done completely by cash.
• The Right Expectations
– Compared with events that are conducted in the capital such as Anime-Con and other prominent anime events, the Cosplay-Tanabata Festival in Baguio City is fairly minimalist and small-scale. Thus, it is best not to expect too much with regards to the spectacle of the event. Rather, one must recognize it for what it is – an event in a small city done by a local group that simply aims to foster and promote the beauty of Japanese culture through anime.

3. The Activities

This year’s festival is fully endowed with activities, from the usual anime fare to the more traditional Japanese ones. Here is a list of the activities which awaited each participant in the event.

• Orihime and HIkoboshi Best in Yukata Contest
– Participants who attended the in the event dressed in traditional Japanese attire received prizes.
• ukinagashi Streamers Making Contest
– The contest was open to all participants, with the winners being displayed during the duration of the event. The winners also received prizes.
• UTAnabata Live! Solo Competition
– Songs from Japanese artists, most especially anime themes, were sung by the participants of the competition. This was a pretty interesting event since more mature contestants sung themes from older anime while the younger ones sung those from newer releases. It was a way for people like me to feel my age.
• On-the-Spot Art Contest
– Sponsored by one of the region’s art schools, the Cordillera School of Digital Arts, the contest was also open to practically everyone in the festival. Another art-based contest, sponsored by the Bag-Iw Art Society, a local art group, was also done.

• AKB48 Fortune Cookie In Love Dance Competition
– Dancing to the tune of AKB48’s popular tune, several groups, from veteran anime fans to junior high students, engaged in a dance competition. Audiences were impressed with the younger contestants, with the junior high participants bagging the contest’s major prizes in a clean sweep.

4 - The AKB48 Dance Competition drew the eyes of everyone in the event, featuring groups ranging from participants in their 20's to competitors from junior high.

5- Groups from the local high school engage in a routine to the tune of AKB48's popular hit. The group was able to bag the 2nd prize.

6 - This group, composed of junior high school students, earned first place, proving that age matters not in an anime dance competition.

• Eating Contests
– Sponsored by local businesses that embrace Asian, especially Japanese culture, Wasabi Burger and Spicy Ramen eating contests were done as well. Numerous attendees participated in the contests, especially since the sponsors were popular food chains in the city, with one of them, Miwishayu Burgers, making the list of one of the most unique burger houses in the country.

7 - Eating contests were well-received, with participants getting free food and bonding with each other, all in the name of fun and camaraderie.

Apart from the contests, several Japanese-themes activities were also conducted, thanks in no small part to the Japanese Association of Northern Luzon. Among the two most prominent ones are the following.

• Free Kenjutsu Lessons
– One of the activities that attracted the most attention, the Kenjutsu lessons were a hit, with anime fans practically lining up to get a feel of the basics of traditional Japanese swordsmanship. A feature on the Kenjutsu teacher that handled the lessons is the focus of a related article.

8 - The Free Kenjutsu lessons were a massive hit, with numerous participants showing great interest in acquiring the basics of traditional Japanese swordsmanship.

• Sumo Wrestling Challenge
– Yet another activity that attracted a lot of participants, the Sumo Wrestling challenge featured members of the JANL acting as the Yokozuna and challenging attendees of the event. Some prize money was awarded to the brave, strong souls who opted to step up to the challenge.

11 - The sudden flurry of limbs and bodies crashing into each other gives audiences a little idea of what Sumo Wrestling is all about.

Of course, no anime-related event can be complete without booths! Booths featuring anime merchandise, independent releases, and some Asian delicacies were part of the event’s highlights. A very popular booth was the goldfish catching booth, which was enjoyed by the young and old alike.

12 - Even Spirited Away's No Face cannot resist the allure of a chocolate fountain. This particular food stall proved very popular, mainly due to most of their offerings costing no more than 20 Philippine pesos (about 50 Yen or 40 US Cents).

13 - Trinkets were also quite commonplace, with keychains, mini plushies and the like being sold for pretty fair prices.

14 - Anime-themed pillows, jackets, and other anime-themed merchandise also sold pretty well.

15 - This custom-printed mug with a chibi version of the Rogue Titan from Shingeki no Kyojin was a definite eye-catcher.

16 - Anime posters and prints were also available for the more frugal attendees, featuring images from iconic anime series like Hunter x Hunter and the like.

The Cosplay-Tanabata Festival was also very well-endowed in the entertainment factor, with a number of local bands performing covers of Japanese songs. Anime themes, both classic and new, serenaded the hall as each band performed in full vigor, hyping the audience and keeping the atmosphere light and high.

17 - A local band that plays J-Pop performed a number of covers and served as background music while some of the contests were going on.

18 - This female singer was a definite crown-pleaser, singing her heart out in nigh-perfect Japanese, much to the delight of the audience.

19 - A group of fans cheer as performers belt out anime tunes onstage.

20 - The event had a very light and free atmosphere, as shown by these attendees emulating a Lion King moment with the author's puppy while anime songs serenaded the background.

4. Cosplay Photos

Cosplaying is one of the most prominent ways a fan can show his or her appreciation of anime. By simulating the persona of a character that was brought to life through pen and paper, cosplayers are able to bring the character literally to life. Here are some notable cosplayers I and my photographers were able to capture in the event.

23 - A veteran anime couple dressing up as iconic characters Kenshin Himura and Kamiya Kaoru.

24 - Though young, these middle school students have begun their cosplaying careers by dressing up as Sword Art Online characters.

25 - The Cosplay-Tanabata 2015 features a Yukata competition, and many attendees participated in it. This high school student poses in a yukata in this photo.

26 - This pair of friends both dressed up as the main character from one of the most popular and critically-acclaimed anime that was recently released, Tokyo Ghoul.

27 - Of course, anime conventions will never be complete without cat-girls among the participants.

29 - Just a random Power Ranger on the prowl, keeping the peace at the event.

30 - Just like cat-girls, no anime event will ever be complete without swordsmen.

31 - Ninjas too, are a popular choice for cosplayers in the Phlippines, pushed by the popularity of shows like Naruto and Basilisk.

32 - At the end of the day, the event is all about having good, wholesome fun.

One of the organizers of the event, Lora Lopez, is also an avid cosplayer. When asked about why she chose cosplaying as a hobby, she states that it originally started as a way for her to bond with her sister. Among the things she loves most is the experience of being able to bring anime characters to life. She also enjoys the process of making her own costumes.

5. Final Thoughts

Indeed, the 4th Cosplay-Tanabata Festival has gone quite a long way from what it was just a couple of years ago. When I first attended a Cosplay Tanabata Festival way back in 2013, the event was very small-scale, with only a few booths and a handful of cosplayers attending and participating in the events. With the recently-concluded festival in mind, it seems like this humble group of local cosplayers in a small mountain retreat of a city in the Philippines is in the process of continuously making their events more and more intricate. The inclusions of activities such as the Sumo Wrestling challenge and the Free Kenjutsu lessons are proof of that. As an anime fan, events such as these do kindle the fire that anime has started in my heart way back when I was still but a child. By being in a place and in an event that is organized specifically for anime enthusiasts, one can easily feel that this passion that all of us here in Honey’s Anime share, regardless of whether we live in one of the world’s biggest and most advanced cities, or if we reside in a small, humble abode atop a mountain. Truly, this year’s Cosplay-Tanabata Festival was able to capture that feeling, showing its attendees that even an anime event on this scale is able to provide an experience that is quite unforgettable. Interviews with the event organizers, as well as other key people in the event, are featured in a related article. I am definitely looking forward to any other events this group has planned for the future.

• Love Live! cosplay team "Debu Live" (Debu means "fat" in Japanese) appeared at Comic Market 88.
• As soon as the news was posted in Twitter, it was retweeted beyond imagination and became a hot topic instantly.

Over 550,000 people made the trip to Tokyo Big Sight for Comic Market 88. Similar to other years, 35,000 circles took part, with 180,000 and 160,000 people attending the event on the 14th and 15th respectively. The last day saw attendance rise to over 210,000 people! Comiket, as it is often called, is an event were groups of fans gather to buy and sell manga, novels, game software, and reviews, among other fan-made items. Held twice a year, in the Summer and Winter, Comiket is the largest event of its kind in Japan, with attendance often exceeding half a million people. The temperature soared to over 32 degrees Celcius during the event, but part of that had to be thanks to the hot cosplay on display! With Comiket 88 being wrapped up, here's a nice long look back at the amazing cosplays seen at the event! It's no secret that Comiket is just as much about cosplay as it is about selling comics, so we've got some sexy, cute, and cool shots for all those people who couldn't be there in person. Marco Bott Profile

Age: 16 Birthday: June 16 Height: 178 cm (5'9") Weight: 70 kg (154 lbs) Affiliations: 104th Trainees Squad, Scouting Legion Graduation Rank: 7th Marco Bott is a member of the 104th Trainees Squad, and graduated as the 7th ranked trainee in his class. He was assigned to fight the Titans after the breach of Wall Rose, and given command of his own squad. Personality Marco is an idealistic person, valuing the good of the group above his own interests as well as understanding and coping with his own shortcomings and limitations. The others respected him greatly, and considered him to be a natural leader suited to his dreams of joining the Military Police. Unlike those who join the Military Police for safety and privileges, his reasons of joining it were genuinely faithful. He was shown to be an excellent judge of others, recognizing Jean's potential as a leader and encouraging him to believe in himself. He was also shown to have a talent for preserving order among the other trainees, whether resolving arguments or keeping them calm during battle. Story Marco is first introduced during the initiation of new recruits, and is intimidated by their instructor after expressing his desire to join the Military Police. He later attempts to maintain order when the recruits question Eren about the attack on Wall Maria, hiding the others when their questions become too upsetting. During his time as a trainee, he befriends Jean Kirschtein and the two were often seen together. He seems to have been one of the only people to recognize Jean's potential, encouraging him to embrace his natural abilities as a leader. After the Colossal Titan attacked Trost, Marco was assigned command of the 19th Trainee Squad and ordered to support the vanguard forces. He was eventually among the trainees stranded when the retreat order was given, without enough gas to scale the Wall and escape Trost. When Mikasa and Jean rally the others into charging headquarters, which had become surrounded by Titans, Marco is quick to join them. Inside the station, he became vital in Armin's plan to reclaim the overun supply room and leads the main group. Armed with rifles, the recruits acted as bait and lure the seven Titans occupying the room into position. Marco managed to maintain order in the group, keeping everyone calm until they could fire and blind the attacking Titans. He is later seen among the regrouped forces, attempting to keep order when people like Dazz give into their fear. Marco did his best to comfort them and keep morale high, even when they were ordered to return to Trost. He joined the other recruits up on the Wall, acting as bait to distract the Titans from the main operation involving Eren Yeager. Later, he was among the recruits that head into the city to battle the Titans. The sky is the limit when cosplay is involved. Creativity is the foundation of this flourishing art. Everything from paper craft to foam to thermoplastics has been used to create armor, props, and various other accessories. Sewing is also a require skill and cosplay has influenced many to pick up this handy skill, but for those who wish to stay on the cheap side of things the closet is the best place to look first. Altering outdated clothes can really bring a new purpose to that T-shirt that hasn’t been worn for 2 years and save money in the long run.

No two cosplays are exactly alike and even those who choose to portray the same character have their own interpretation of what material or stitches the outfit was sewn with making each person’s cosplay unique and a way to show self-expression through the character.

Problems Within the Community:

There have been several prominent arguments amongst cosplayers revolving around etiquette, construction, and source material. One of the more severe problems involves sexual harassment by other con attendees who take more revealing cosplays as an invitation to touch. The Cosplay is Not Consent movement has taken the lead in educating normal con attendees on how to not to behave around cosplayers. The movement strives to reduce the harassment many cosplayers face when attending conventions.

In relation to sexual harassment, many cosplayers are also unhappy with the portrayal of women within fictional worlds as many of them are often exposed. Those who choose to cosplay more revealing characters are often the subject of criticism and accused of seeking attention. This is simply not true. While indeed the pool of badass women within media needs to be more inclusive to all women, choosing to cosplay a character who is portrayed with a more open outfit does not equate to low morals.

Moving away from the treatment of women within the community, the biggest debate amongst cosplayers revolves around those who choose to buy their cosplay versus those who take their time to craft their own. Most often those who buy their cosplays are often looked down upon as inferior to those who decided to create their own. Neither is superior to the other as both of these options are viable.

Closing

Cosplay is open to everyone as it should be. No creature is too great or too small to create and despite the ongoing debates involving those in the community, cosplay is a brotherhood. Cosplay brings fans together and creates friends for life. Those who are on the fence about cosplay really should at least try it out once. There is nothing quite like it and hearing someone call for your character’s name can’t help but bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Her catchphrase is "Nico Nico Nii!" accompanied with a pose. She often thinks a bit highly of herself but despite that, she is also caring. A common joke in the series is that she's often ignored by the other members of μ's at her attempts at being the better idol. Yazawa Niko was the Idol Research Club's president. Hibiki Ganaha Profile

Age: 16 Birthday: October 10 Height: 152 cm Weight: 41 kg Blood type: A BWH: 83-56-80 Likes: knitting, table tennis, animals Image color: light blue Hibiki is a member of "Project Fairy," she appears in the PSP game as a rival. Hibiki has long black hair tied into a wild ponytail and is usually seen in sporty outfits, usally using hoop earrings. Hibiki is from Okinawa, and is highly energetic and cheerful. Despite being a rival to other idols, she always remains friendly and happy, without becoming overly competitive like Takane. Hibiki has an outstanding amount of pets, which she happens to lose quite frenquently. Her pets include a mouse, a hamster named Hamuzou, a gerbil, a parrot, a rabbit, a cat, a dog named Inumi, a pig, a flying squirrel, and oddly enough, a crocodile; the closest of these being Hamuzou the hamster. Nobody is sure where's she from or her background story. She prefers not to answer any personal questions out of curiosity. She is considered one of the smarter characters in the series, and is fluent in numerous languages, one of which being German. Furthermore, it is implied in the anime that her native country is not Japan. In The iDOLM@STER (TV Series) She is rumored to be of foreign royalty, giving her the nickname "Silver Queen". (Source: Project-IM@S) Takane Shijou, an elegant and majestic figure, she is known as "The Silver Queen" by her fans in the game, and also known as "The Vocal Master" of 961 Production, rivaling, and even supposedly surpassing Chihaya's ability. She comes from a very wealthy family, like Iori, and is in fact half European, most likely German. Because of the way Takane was raised in a rich family, she has a strong and stuck-up personality, though she talks very politely to others, even towards her rivals and enemies. Even though very hard-headed sometimes, she hates being alone and in fact when alone she begins to cry while staring at the moon. Takane is also a very smart girl, almost comparable to Ritsuko, and though she does nothing against it, she is well aware that President Kuroi is telling her ridiculous lies. Takane's family consists of herself and father, her mother having passed away when she was little. In fact, she stated that she never even met her mother. She is raised by her strict butler due to her father frequently being away for business trips. It is because of this that she always approaches tasks with a very laid back attitude. She manages good grades with minimal effort, and was born with good-looks that belie her age. She even receives around 20 confessions of love per day from boys. She's grown up in a very laissez-faire family, who had no problems with her becoming an idol. While she doesn't really have cruel intentions, she believes like everything else, she can make her way to becoming top idol easily. As she appears only in the Xbox 360 version of the game, Miki is in some ways the second main character (behind Haruka) and her character is developed considerably over the game's year-long timespan. Later in the game, she cuts her hair short and no longer dyes it blonde. Originally, Miki wasn't supposed to be in the game (as seen in the promo). About Death Note

Acting out of pure boredom, Ryuk begins the story of Death Note on a whim. Perhaps neutral by nature, Ryuk often refuses to aid Light and instead enjoys watching him struggle for his goal. The most important facet of Ryuk's character is that he is not Light's friend. He acts for his own interests and entertainment, and often fails to tell Light key details about the Death Note. As a zombie, she lives together with Chihiro in order to know how it feels to become free from her father's chains. Rea is friendly with everyone at the shrine, including Darin despite her intentions to use Rea as a research subject. She calls Mero by Mero-Chan similar to that of Mero's mother which causes Mero great discomfort at first. Similarly, she calls Darin with the -Chan suffix to Darin's discontent. She likes Chihiro and feels like she is bothering or interrupting Chihiro and Ranko's relationship. She seems to understand Bābu. She's also physically strong as her body is no longer restrained by her brain as a result of her death.
